Current Work
I spend most of my time conceptualising, designing, building, and testing novel aerial systems, mechatronics, robotics, supporting equipment and test rigs.
PhD
Funded by HP, I developed a one-shot 3D printed compliant gripper, able to extract 3D printed parts from powder-based 3D printers, whilst keeping them in a known pose.
This included transient FEA studies of the interaction between the 3D printed gripper and objects, machine vision to track slip and validate simulations, custom strain gauge array sensors for tactile feedback, and control of an industrial robot arm. Three peer-reviewed publications were produced as part of this research.
BRL HEARTS
I am part of the HEARTS (healthcare and assistive robotics) team at the Bristol Robotics Laboratory, which is currently focused on quadruped robots. I have led the hardware design for a new quadruped robot, as well as the integration and testing of complex sensors onto existing robotic platforms (such as the Unitree A1 shown) in challenging environments.
SciRoc
I led a small team to 2nd place in the 2019 European Robotics League Smart Cities Drone Challenge, to deliver a first aid kid autonomously, indoors, without GPS, whilst avoiding obstacles.
UKSEDS
I was part of a team which won the 2018 UKSEDS National Rocketry Championship. The dual-purpose rocket was also designed to be launched from a high altitude balloon platform at 30km altitude, for which I developed a MATLAB flight prediction tool using environmental forecast data.
